The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Morehouse School of Medicine offers a comprehensive training experience for medical professionals dedicated to women’s health. Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to expose residents to all facets of obstetrics and gynecology, with progressive training throughout the four years.

• PGY-1: Introduction to core areas including High-Risk Obstetric Care, Family Planning, and Reproductive Endocrinology. Residents participate in dedicated ultrasound and research rotations.
• PGY-2: Continued training with a focus on Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology.
• PGY-3: Enhanced clinical decision-making in complex cases, with residents supervising junior colleagues and medical students.
• PGY-4: Chief residents take on administrative roles, engage in elective rotations, and finalize their research projects.

• Grady Memorial Hospital: A vital safety-net hospital providing comprehensive care, where residents encounter diverse patient populations and high-acuity cases.
• Piedmont Atlanta Hospital: Noted as one of the top community hospitals, offering advanced medical, surgical, and diagnostic services.
• Colquitt Regional Medical Center: A 155-bed rural facility focusing on patient-centered care with various specialties.
• Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital: A leading regional center for obstetric care and neonatal services.
• Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center: A training site where residents perform benign gynecology procedures and surgeries.

Research Opportunities

Research is an integral component of the residency, with expectations for residents to engage actively in scholarly activities. The residency program requires residents to complete a case report during intern year and progressively more complex research projects through to graduation. Opportunities for presenting research at local, regional, and national conferences are encouraged.

Residents participate in various didactic and clinical conferences designed to enhance learning. Key components include Grand Rounds, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality conferences, which stress critical thinking and collaboration among peers and faculty.

Application Process and Requirements

The program begins accepting applications through ResidencyCAS, requiring successful completion of the USMLE Steps. Candidates must submit three letters of recommendation, including a standardized letter of evaluation. It’s preferable to complete the USMLE exams on the first attempt; however, applicants with strong portfolios may receive consideration even with less than ideal scores.

Visa Support

The program offers sponsorship for ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visas. Applicants must thoroughly understand the requirements for international medical graduates to be eligible.
