Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital offers a robust thirty-six month ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program. Curriculum Structure

Clinical Rotations

Residents partake in a diverse range of clinical experiences, with approximately eight months dedicated to inpatient medicine at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. These rotations involve caring for a wide variety of patients across numerous disciplines, allowing residents to gradually enhance their autonomy under the supervision of experienced faculty.

Additionally, residents engage in continuity clinic rotations and gain experience managing their own patient panels. Subspecialty clinics provide further opportunities for career exploration and advancement in their clinical interests.

Research and Scholarly Activities

Research is a key component of the program, with residents required to engage in longitudinal quality improvement projects. Faculty mentorship is integral, with residents paired with mentors matching their specific research interests. Educational Conferences

The residency program promotes a culture of continuous learning through various educational conferences, including:

• Morning Report: held three times a week, transitioning to daily sessions as the program matures.

• Resident Journal Club: a monthly gathering to discuss recent literature.

Application Process and Requirements

The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and processes applications exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Candidates must have graduated from medical school within three years of applying and meet specific criteria, including ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (IMGs).

The program admits 18 categorical residents annually and supports only J-1 visa sponsorship. Additionally, applicants must not have exceeded two attempts on USMLE or COMLEX exams and must possess at least four months of U.S. clinical experience.
