Adult Psychiatry Residency

Welcome to the Adult Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Minnesota! Our program is dedicated to developing psychiatric experts and leaders who are well-prepared to serve the mental health needs of individuals in Minnesota and beyond.

Our residents benefit from a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes clinical excellence, research opportunities, and leadership development. Our residents have access to a diverse range of training experiences, including interventional psychiatry, novel treatments for treatment-resistant depression and addictions, informed care for both urban and rural communities in Minnesota, early childhood development, adolescent mood disorders, and coordinated specialty care for early psychosis spectrum illnesses.

Our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized experts committed to providing high-quality patient care, conducting research, and advancing the field of psychiatry. We also offer specialized training in areas of mental health such as forensic psychiatry, neuromodulation, veterans’ mental health care, child psychiatry, addiction medicine, and community psychiatry.

  • USMLE scores
  • Medical School transcript
  • Contemporary letters of recommendation
  • Confirmation of previous training and delineation of the specific rotations from the program’s director.
