General Surgery Residency
The PGY-1 Preliminary Surgery Resident is a first-year resident physician who participates in a one-year training program within the Department of Surgery. This resident provides direct patient care under supervision, acquires foundational surgical knowledge and technical skills, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality surgical services.
The position is designed for residents who require or desire a single year of surgical training before pursuing further specialty training or other career pathways.
Prerequisites:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (or COMLEX equivalent).
- ECFMG certification (if applicable for international graduates).
- Eligible for medical licensure or training license in the state of practice.
- Commitment to ethical patient care, continuous learning, and professional development.
Duration: One-year non-categorical preliminary position. Continuation in the program is not guaranteed beyond the PGY-1 year.
