General Surgery Residency

The Department of Surgery at Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of University of Michigan, is seeking a PGY-3 categorical general surgery resident to begin on 7/1/2026. We are in the process of receiving ACGME approval for a temporary complement increase for this position; after the PGY-3 year, the resident would fill a vacant position.

The University of Michigan General Surgery Program prioritizes excellence and innovation in patient care, education, scientific inquiry, professional development, and a culture supportive of well-being. To accomplish our mission, we intentionally develop autonomy for our residents in the expert clinical care of diverse and complex patients with innovative techniques, provide mentored training in research and leadership, and maintain a focus on developing each resident to their full potential. Residents completing training at the University of Michigan are well-positioned for highly competitive fellowship programs and many go on to leadership positions at academic surgical programs.

Prerequisites:

Interested candidates must have successfully completed PGY-1 and 2 (categorical or preliminary) years in General Surgery by 6/30/2026 and be in good standing within their current ACGME accredited program. This position does not include dedicated research time.
