General Surgery Residency-Categorical Position

The University of Puerto Rico General Surgery Residency Program has a categorical PGY-3 general surgery resident position available beginning July 1, 2025.

Prerequisites:

Qualified candidate must have successfully completed PGY-1 and PGY-2 years from an ACGME-accredited program by June 30, 2025. Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview via email.

Proficiently in Spanish language is required as most of our patient population is Spanish speaking only.

Applications will be accepted until March 28, 2025.

  • Medical School Transcript/Dean’s Letter
  • Medical School diploma – ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
  • USMLE scores (Steps 1, 2 and 3)
  • ABSITE reports
  • Current Case logs
  • Current Defined Category and Minimum Report
  • Annual competency-based summative evaluation for all years of training
  • ACGME Milestone report for each year of training
  • List of completed rotations for all years of training
  • BLS/ACLS/ATLS certificates
  • FLS/FES (if applicable)
  • Three letters of recommendation, to include letter from current Program Director
  • If applicable, detailed explanation for any remediation or probation during residency training
  • Current US citizenship, green or visa status
