General Surgery Residency – Categorical Position
The General Surgery Residency program at The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona seeks a categorical PGY3 resident to start July 1, 2025.
Our program is a 5-year, fully-accredited, non-pyramidal program with 10 categorical positions per year. Our commitment is to train young surgeons to a high level of competency in clinical and academic surgery and, most importantly, to guide them in becoming professional leaders in their field of interest.
The Department of Surgery at The University of Arizona has received national and international recognition in a number of fields. We are now home to seven divisions, each of which include faculty members who are committed to mentoring trainees in clinical and research experiences:
- Abdominal Transplant
- Cardiothoracic Surgery (Including the Section of Thoracic Surgery)
- General Surgery (Including the Section of Minimally Invasive, Robotic and Bariatric Surgery)
- Pediatric Surgery
- Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery
- Surgical Oncology (Including the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)
- Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (Including the Section of Podiatry)
Our program provides surgical residents with broad clinical experience, comprehensive education in surgical sciences, and excellent opportunities for achieving competence in basic and clinical investigation.

In order to review your application we will require the following:
- Letter of Intent and Personal Statement explaining the search for a new position at the PGY-3 level
- USMLE Score Reports (Steps 1, 2, 3)
- ABSITE Score Reports
- Three Current Letters of Recommendation – including 1 from current/most recent Residency Program Director
- Summative Competency-based evaluation completed by Program Director
- ACGME Milestone Evaluation(s) for current and previous academic years
- Copy of Medical School Diploma
- ECFMG certificate if applicable
- Current Defined Category Case Log Report
- Only J-1 visas accepted, no exceptions
All of the above information should be combined into a since PDF file and emailed to jessicataylor1@arizona.edu. The only exception to this is if the Letters of Recommendation are coming directly from the letter writer
