Internal Medicine Residency
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA has an unexpected opening for a regular track categorical PGY-1 Internal Medicine resident for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. Recognizing the challenges of starting training off-cycle, we’re prepared to consider immediately filling this position with a well-qualified applicant.
- Application Deadline: Complete applications must be received by 4 PM CST, Thursday, July 17, 2025.
- Interviews: Interviews will be conducted 100% virtually on Friday, July 18, 2025, with an estimated timeline from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST.
Prerequisites:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Comply with the UTRGV GME Resident Selection and Appointment Policy.
- Possess a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) if holding a foreign medical degree.
- Successfully submit to security background checks before beginning residency training.
- Be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas. (For more information on the Texas Physician-in-Training (PIT) Permit, please visit the Texas Medical Board website.)
- Must be currently eligible to work due to the immediate timeline.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, formally granted such status by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or the U.S. Department of State. Non-U.S. IMG applicants are accepted if they meet the aforementioned criteria.

Competitive applicants will be invited for an online interview. Candidates will be selected based on a comprehensive review of the following:

- Medical school transcript
- Scholarly Activity
- Leadership and Community Service roles
- USMLE Steps 1 & 2 scores or COMLEX scores
- Four (4) letters of recommendation
- Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
- Interview session performance
Applicants who graduated over 5 years ago must have all USMLE steps completed to be considered.
