Medical Genetics Residency
UAB (Birmingham, AL) has an open position for a two-year medical genetics categorical resident starting July 2026.
This program is ideal for people who want a strong clinical training in diagnosing and managing rare disease syndromes with exposure to cutting-edge technology including genome sequencing and genetic therapeutics. Geneticists provide care to entire families and patients of all ages.
The UAB genetics program has a robust training environment: 9 trainees in categorical genetics, Peds/Genetics, IM/Genetics, MFM/Genetics, and medical biochemical genetics tracks, so there are lots of peer learning interactions! We have on-site laboratories and trainees in clinical biochemical genetics and laboratory genetics/genomics. UAB is a NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) Center of Excellence. We can support J1 Visas.
Prerequisites:
Medical Genetics residency is open to those who have completed at least 1 year of an ACGME-accredited program; preference given to those who will have finished their first residency program. Trainees receive 24 months of training (18 clinical, 6 months research) and are eligible to sit for the AMBGG board exam.
