Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship
The Metis Foundation, RESTOR Laboratory, in conjunction with The Division of Plastic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio, WOD3N Laboratory, has an available academic research fellow position for 2025-2026. There will be an opportunity to extend for a further year, contingent upon program availability.
This funded post will include opportunities to perform small and large animal studies and surgeries involving nerve regeneration, bone defect/gap reconstruction, VCA transplantation and ex vivo perfusion of tissue composites, and human clinical studies in breast reconstruction.
Applicants will be expected to have basic surgical skills with microsurgical skills preferred; however, surgical project specific training will be available. In addition, applicants will be involved in study design, protocol preparation and submission and statistical. Successful candidates will be expected to present and publish this work. Additionally, applicants will be expected to participate in journal club, regular team meetings, participate in journal/chapter review article authorship, assist in writing grant proposals and interact with cross-institutional collaborators.
Candidates will be able to join faculty in clinical surgical cases when time allows.
Program Length: 6 month – 1 year*, starting July 2025
Prerequisites:
- Must be at least PGY-3
- This position would be ideally suited for junior surgical residents seeking training positions in plastic surgery, trauma, general surgery or othopaedics. Additionally, candidates must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident eligible.
The Metis Foundation is a 501c(3) specifically organized to advance clinically relevant scientific research to the medical community, especially within the US Department of Defense. This post will support the RESTOR Research Military Program.
