Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency

Jackson North Podiatric Medical and Surgical Residency Program is an ACGME-approved (via the Council on Podiatric Medical Education), three-year Surgical Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery Residency-approved program of training which functions within the Jackson Health System. Our program is located at the Jackson North Medical Center campus in North Miami Beach, Florida.

The program supports a total of six residents in training, two in the first year, two in the second year and two in the third year. While in training, residents must satisfy requirements set forth by the CPME for minimum numbers of case pathologies and surgical procedures in foot, rearfoot, ankle and lower leg. These interventions involve wound care, metabolic and developmental diseases, trauma, pediatric and preventive care.

In addition, residents are required to rotate through core practices in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pathology/Laboratory, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Orthopedics, Radiology and Emergency Medicine. The residency program functions under the direction of a director who is board-certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery, as well as Podiatric Medicine, Wound Care, Podopediatrics and Disability.

Prerequisites:

All applicants must successfully pass the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners’ American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination Parts I and II prior to starting the program.

Postgraduate Training:

There is postgraduate training required in the form of graduation from a U.S.-accredited School of Podiatric Medicine. While not required, it is strongly encouraged for applicants to attend an externship at Jackson North Medical Center some time during the third or fourth year of Podiatric Medical School. In this way, potential applicants obtain a clear understanding of what is involved with the training program and the program has an opportunity to evaluate externs for fit within the hospital environment.

How To apply:

Applications are accepted via the Centralized Application Service for Podiatric Residencies
