The Program at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State Universityprovides a four-year residency in Anesthesiology designed todevelop comprehensive clinical and technical skills necessary for asuccessful career in anesthesiology, as recognized by the AmericanBoard of Anesthesiology (ABA). A conducive learning environment isfostered to encourage the acquisition of clinical knowledge,procedural skills, sound clinical judgment, and essentialprofessional attitudes.

Program Overview

The residency comprises a Clinical Base Year followed by threeyears of clinical anesthesia training (CA-1, CA-2, CA-3), therebyensuring a robust educational experience. The curriculum alignswith the ACGME’s six General Competencies: Patient Care, MedicalKnowledge, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonaland Communication Skills, Professionalism, and Systems-basedPractice. This structure allows PGY-1 residents to gain awell-rounded experience that integrates closely with subsequentanesthesia training 1.
