Program Overview

Designated as a 6/6/6 program, the Swedish Family Medicine Residency accepts six residents into each first-year class, combining inpatient and outpatient care comprehensively. The curriculum is designed to model the real-life practice of family medicine, providing residents with a longitudinal experience that promotes continuity of care through a mixed Inpatient Service (IPS) model.1

Residents dedicate approximately 40% of their training to direct patient care within the Swedish Family Medical Center, gaining invaluable insight into the community context of healthcare.

Curriculum & Rotations

The curriculum consists of diverse rotations tailored to build a robust foundation in family medicine. The training schedule progresses through the following key components:

• PGY-1: Three months Inpatient Service, followed by rotations in Palliative Care, Obstetrics, Emergency Medicine, Gynecology/Urology, and more, totaling various specialties to ensure well-rounded exposure.
• PGY-2: Emphasizes Inpatient Service, Rural Away rotations, and practice management while ensuring competency in both general and specialized care.
• PGY-3: Focus shifts to Ambulatory Care and elective rotations across multiple service lines, including Behavioral Health and Pediatrics.

The didactic curriculum comprises weekly teaching sessions covering essential topics in family medicine, including ethics, preventive care, and practice management. Application and Admission Requirements
