Program Overview

Kettering Health’s Anesthesiology Residency Program, located in Dayton, Ohio, aims to prepare outstanding anesthesiologists through a rigorous and comprehensive training experience. The program features a four-year categorical residency with 12 accredited positions, starting with the first-year residents (PGY1) and progressing through to the fourth year (PGY4)

The program is committed to producing competent, compassionate, and skilled anesthesiologists who provide exceptional peri-operative care. Its educational philosophy includes a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, critical thinking, and a commitment to patient safety through hands-on experience and a supportive learning environment. Curriculum and Rotations

The curriculum is diverse and structured, encompassing various anesthesiology specialties including cardiac, thoracic, neurosurgery, critical care, and pediatric anesthesia. Rotations take place across multiple clinical settings:

• Kettering Health Dayton (344 beds)
• Kettering Health Washington Township (129 beds)
• Dayton Children’s Hospital (181 beds)
• Miami Valley Hospital (1,111 beds)
• University of Cincinnati Medical Center (726 beds)

Residents also benefit from the Kettering College Interprofessional Education Simulation Center, which enhances their ability to manage a variety of cases with diverse patient populations. This exposure is critical in developing comprehensive anesthetic techniques necessary for a successful career in anesthesiology.

Research Opportunities

The program encourages residents to engage in meaningful research activities tailored to their interests. Application Requirements

For prospective applicants, the Kettering Health Anesthesiology Residency Program looks favorably upon candidates from both DO and MD backgrounds. The program encourages self-starters who are prepared for a high-volume case load. While the program prefers applicants who have passed the USMLE and/or COMLEX on their first attempt, it evaluates each applicant based on the entirety of their credentials and experiences.
