North Colorado Family Medicine Residency Program Overview

The North Colorado Family Medicine Residency Program provides outstanding training for physicians aspiring to practice full-spectrum family medicine across various settings. The program is organized as five distinct residency tracks, each providing unopposed training that includes surgical obstetrics as well as specialized rural training for interested residents.

Residency Programs

The North Colorado Family Medicine Residency encompasses five unique programs, thereby offering tailored training options to residents. The Core Program does rotations primarily at North Colorado Medical Center and is ideal for those interested in diverse future practices in family medicine.

Other tracks include:

• Hospitalist Program: Focused on hospital medicine, with training through collaboratives and didactics.
• Rural Training Program – Sterling: Residents start in Greeley and complete training in Sterling, with additional stipends.
• Rural Training Program – Wray: Similar structure as Sterling, designed specifically for rural continuity and emergency coverage.
• Sunrise Community Health Center Program: Residents focus on outpatient care in a community health setting.

Curriculum Structure

The program’s curriculum is built to provide comprehensive training in every main medical discipline over a three-year cycle, ensuring consistent coverage in Medicine, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics throughout. Each resident’s experience spans various domains including behavior sciences, community medicine, and geriatrics through longitudinal experiences.

Didactic training is structured with sessions held every Wednesday, along with live-streamed conferences for remote participants. Each series integrates hands-on experiences with academic learning designed for whole-person care in family practice.

Research Opportunities

Residents have access to various research initiatives, particularly centered on community health and resource-limited settings. The program encourages participation in academic research, allowing residents to engage with ongoing quality improvement projects or studies pertaining to family medicine.

Training Locations

Training is dispersed across several key locations in and near Greeley:

• Banner North Colorado Family Medicine Clinic: Main continuity clinic for residents throughout their training.
• Banner North Colorado Medical Center: Primarily serves PGY-1 hospital rotations, along with elective rotations for later years.
• Sterling Regional MedCenter: Home clinic for Sterling training residents.
• Sunrise Community Health Center: Continuity site for Sunrise residents emphasizing community health.

Resident Life and Benefits

Residents are considered employees of Banner Health, receiving a competitive salary structure:

• First year: $60,302
• Second year: $62,864
• Third year: $66,143

Application Process and Requirements

The program has specific criteria for applicants aimed at ensuring a high caliber of trainees:

• Must apply through ERAS before the designated deadline.
• Three letters of recommendation, including one from the residency program director if applicable.
• Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) and transcript are necessary.
• Minimum passing scores for USMLE Step 1 (210) or COMLEX (515).
• International medical graduates are required to have completed two years of residency training prior to application.

It is essential to note that the program does not currently offer visa sponsorship for international applicants.

The North Colorado Family Medicine Residency Program does not offer visa sponsorship, hence international medical graduates must already possess the necessary qualifications for licensure in Colorado prior to applying. The program is considered competitive for both domestic and IMG applicants; however, those with strong backgrounds and relevant experience in family medicine will find favorable consideration.
