The Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center is a distinguished program that has been delivering care for women for over 130 years. Monmouth Medical Center is an affiliate of RWJBarnabas Health, and it serves as a High Risk Level III facility, providing an impressive 6,000 deliveries annually, which reflects the robustness of its clinical training opportunities.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum consists of comprehensive clinical experiences coupled with robust educational resources designed to prepare residents for successful careers in obstetrics and gynecology. Residents will gain hands-on training through a variety of rotations, allowing them to experience multiple subspecialties including Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Gynecologic Oncology. Specialties include working with experienced faculty and participating in various procedures, enhancing hands-on clinical skills.

Rotations

Most of the training occurs at Monmouth Medical Center, while subspecialty rotations may take place in affiliated private practices and at Community Medical Center (CMC) for gynecologic surgeries. The program emphasizes learning through experience, with residents involved in various clinical procedures like ultrasound imaging, gynecological surgeries, and fertility treatments, ensuring exposure to all areas of OB/GYN.

Clinical Experience

With a focus on high-risk obstetrics, the program boasts significant advantages such as a 14% overall C-section rate and a 90% VBAC rate. Residents will benefit from being part of an active OB Rapid Response Team ensuring safety during labor and delivery. This structured environment also includes regular resident-led educational events that allow for continuing education opportunities and active discussion about current cases.

The application to the program can be completed through the ResidencyCAS, requiring documentation such as a common application, personal statement, and CV. Specific benchmarks include passing the USMLE Step 1 and achieving a Step 2 score of 230 or above. The program is open to international medical graduates and sponsors the J-1 visa exclusively, facilitating entry for qualified applicants from around the globe.
