Competitive Nature of the Program

The residency program is noted for its competitive selection process, receiving approximately 600 completed applications annually and conducting interviews with around 80 selected candidates. Applicants are evaluated based on multiple criteria, including performance on clinical rotations, letters of recommendation, U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, and personal achievements. The program is friendly towards DO and international medical graduates (IMGs), offering an inclusive environment for diverse applicants. However, all applicants must be eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship, as the program does not accept other visa types.

Application Requirements

To be considered for the program, applicants must submit a completed ERAS application that includes essential documents such as a dean’s letter, medical school transcript, and USMLE scores (Step 1 preferred but not mandatory for review). At least three letters of recommendation, including one preferably from a neurologist, are also required. International applicants must hold ECFMG certification and possess a California Post-Graduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) by their interview date.
