Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Program

The Residency in Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center (NS/LIJ) is a two-campus, fully accredited program that provides comprehensive training for prospective emergency medicine physicians. This fully integrated residency was established in 2016, bringing together the resources of two long-standing emergency medicine programs located only 1.7 miles apart. The program offers a three-year residency curriculum designed to equip residents with the clinical competencies necessary for effective emergency care.

Clinical training takes place at both North Shore University Hospital—a designated adult Level 1 Trauma Center—and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, with additional significant clinical exposure at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, which serves as a pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center. A key feature of the program is the inclusion of a rotation at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, further broadening the clinical training experience, and giving residents unique exposure to trauma care.
